MEAN WELL ERG-5000H is a four-channel energy recycling grid-type DC-AC inverter with 60–420 VDC inputs and a typical rated DC input power of 5000 W. Its NEWSOK DC connections support CC/CV testing while recovered energy returns to a compatible single-phase AC utility.

This model uses the 60–420 VDC input range selected by H in the order code. The absence of -T selects the NEWSOK DC connector arrangement.
The four-channel rated input is 1250 W × 4, and the typical maximum is 1500 W × 4. The maximum 6000 W capability automatically derates toward rated power as ambient temperature rises; over-temperature protection operates if the internal temperature limit is exceeded. No fixed maximum-power duration is specified.
Observe voltage, current, total-power and temperature limits together. Maximum current and maximum voltage are not an unrestricted simultaneous operating point. This product absorbs DC energy from equipment under test and returns energy to the AC utility.
AC Grid Return and Efficiency

| Typical conversion efficiency |
91% at 380 VDC input and 5000 W input power |
| Typical energy recycling ratio |
88% at 380 VDC input and 5000 W input power |
The recycling-ratio reference assumes that the source power supply has at least 96.5% efficiency. System energy recycling ratio equals source power-supply efficiency multiplied by ERG conversion efficiency; it is not the ERG efficiency alone.
Unless otherwise stated, specifications are measured at 230 VAC output, 380 VDC input, rated input power and 25°C ambient. The efficiency and recycling plots use the same DC voltage and 25°C, with 100% load defined as 5000 W. The plots illustrate changes with load rather than a constant efficiency guarantee.
The AC power figures are stated in VA. The 5000 W and 6000 W figures above describe DC input power, not a promise of that amount of AC output. Connect the AC output to a compatible utility system and protective earth as shown in the connection diagram.

CC means constant-current operation and CV means constant-voltage operation. Current-setting tolerance is based on maximum input current; voltage-setting tolerance is based on maximum input voltage. Tolerance can increase at ambient-temperature extremes.
Use the MEAN WELL CMU2A controller or a suitable CANBus interface for remote setting, monitoring and data analysis. Select the controller configuration for the ERG application; it is separate equipment in the system diagram. Follow the manufacturer’s user manual for addressing, commands and system setup.
JK1 provides two linked eight-position CANBus sockets. Use twisted-pair communication wiring. After connecting the communication cable, fit termination resistors to the remaining end sockets of both the ERG system and CMU2A to suppress signal reflections. The controller’s separate power input shown in the system diagram is not an additional ERG input rating.

Pins 1–8 are positive DC inputs and pins 9–16 are negative DC inputs. Use both contacts assigned to each channel and follow the front-view numbering in the drawing. Confirm the complete mating assembly and cable termination for the installed connector.
Channel and System Configurations
Four channels in parallel: connect the four channels to one suitable source as shown in the front-panel wiring diagram.
Two independent groups: each source uses a pair of channels, giving a rated input allocation of 1250 W × 2 per group.
Four independent channels: connect up to four separate units under test to the four channel pairs.
A single ERG can use four channels in series, or two sets of two channels in series, following the two separate diagrams.
Multiple ERG units can be arranged in the illustrated series/parallel systems, up to 64 units. This system count does not override channel voltage, current, power, insulation or control limits. Follow the manufacturer’s diagrams and user manual for the selected arrangement.
Select suitable wires between the power supplies under test and the ERG to reduce line loss and improve energy recycling. Verify polarity and the complete interconnection before enabling the system.
