Model and Battery Selection

Complete model HEP-600C-48
Series / function HEP-600C / three-stage AC/DC battery charger
Model voltage code 48 V
Standard battery type Open and sealed lead-acid batteries
Recommended battery capacity 35–105 Ah

HEP identifies the series, 600 is the family power designation and C identifies a battery charger. The final voltage code identifies the model; use the boost and float settings below when selecting the battery.

The recommended capacity is a MEAN WELL guideline. Confirm the battery manufacturer’s permitted maximum charging current before choosing the battery or adjusting the charger.

The series lists flooded, Gel and AGM lead-acid batteries and Li-ion batteries, including lithium iron and lithium manganese types. Different battery specifications may require charger modifications; consult the battery supplier and MEAN WELL before using a chemistry or charging profile outside the standard lead-acid settings.

Charging Output and Adjustment

Default boost charge voltage 57.6 V
Default float charge voltage 54.4 V
Rated charging current 10.5 A
Voltage adjustment range 46.1–60.5 V
Current adjustment range 5.2–10.5 A
Charging sequence Constant current → constant voltage → float
Three-colour LED Red: first charging stage; yellow: constant-voltage stage; green: float stage

The factory charging curve starts with a 10.5 A constant-current setting, reaches the 57.6 V boost setting and then changes to 54.4 V float charging as current tapers.

The charging diagram marks 100%, 50% and 10% current, with 50% at the red/yellow division and 10% at the float transition. These current markers are not battery state-of-charge percentages or specified charging times.

Adjust output voltage and constant-current level using the internal Vo ADJ and Io ADJ potentiometers, accessible by removing the rubber stopper on the case. Set them to the battery manufacturer’s requirements and remain within this model’s adjustment ranges.

Input and Electrical Performance

AC input range 90–264 VAC
AC operational limit 277 VAC
DC input range 128–370 VDC
DC operational limit 390 VDC
Input frequency 47–63 Hz
Typical efficiency 95.5%
Active PFC / typical power factor PF >0.98 at 115 VAC; >0.95 at 230 VAC; >0.93 at 277 VAC, full load
Typical AC current 7 A at 115 VAC; 3.3 A at 230 VAC; 2.9 A at 277 VAC
Typical cold-start inrush 70 A at 230 VAC; pulse width 1010 µs measured at 50% of peak current
Leakage current <0.75 mA at 277 VAC
No-load consumption at remote OFF <0.5 W

Use the input-voltage and temperature derating curves together. The 277 VAC and 390 VDC values are operational limits, separately identified from the normal input ranges.

Unless otherwise stated, the specification measurements use 230 VAC input, rated load and 25°C ambient temperature.

Remote Control, Standby and Protection

Remote ON Open circuit, or a high control level >2 V to 5 V
Remote OFF Short circuit, or a low control level from 0 V to 0.5 V
Standby output 5 V / 0.5 A
Standby tolerance / ripple ±5%; 100 mVp-p maximum
Overvoltage protection range 68–73 V
Overvoltage recovery Output shutdown; reapply input power to recover
Overtemperature recovery Output shutdown; reapply input power to recover
Short-circuit protection Provided

Use the RC+ and RC−/GND terminals for remote control. The +5VSB standby connection is separate from the main battery-charging output; observe its 0.5 A rating.

Cooling, Environment and Derating

Cooling / enclosure Fanless free-air convection; aluminum case fully potted with silicone
Working ambient temperature −40 to +70°C
Working humidity 20–95% RH, non-condensing
Storage temperature / humidity −40 to +85°C; 10–95% RH, non-condensing
Temperature coefficient ±0.05%/°C from 0 to 60°C
Operating altitude Up to 5000 m, subject to altitude derating
Vibration test 20–500 Hz, 10 G; 10 minutes per cycle; 72 minutes on each X, Y and Z axis

For horizontal installation, the thermal curve permits 100% load from −40°C through 55°C, then reduces to 60% at 70°C. The upper operating temperature does not imply full-load operation.

At 60 Hz, the static input curve shows 80% load at 90 VAC, rising to 100% at 115 VAC and remaining at 100% through the 277 VAC operational endpoint.

Above 2000 m, reduce the permitted ambient temperature by 3.5°C per additional 1000 m for this fanless model.

The silicone-potted aluminum construction is described as waterproof and intended for high-vibration, dusty, humid and oily environments. Select the installation and terminal protection to suit the actual environment.

Dimensions, Mounting and Connections

Body dimensions (L × W × H) 280 × 144 × 48.5 mm
Case / drawing tolerance 228A / ±1 mm
Mounting-hole layout Four Ø6 mm locations; centre spans 268.6 mm × 113 mm
Terminal projections 21 mm maximum at each end, as shown in the side view
AC input terminal 1 FG
AC input terminal 2 AC/L
AC input terminal 3 AC/N
DC terminal 1 RC+
DC terminal 2 RC− and GND
DC terminal 3 +5VSB
DC terminals 4 and 5 −V
DC terminals 6 and 7 +V

Use the numbered terminal tables and the mechanical drawing to orient the wiring, including protective earth at FG and the correct battery-output polarity. Allow for the terminal projections and adjustment access when choosing the mounting space.

The drawing identifies the Tcase measuring point and the Vo ADJ / Io ADJ access locations. Follow the complete drawing for the mounting outline and measuring-point position.

The charger is a component for installation in end equipment. EMC tests were performed with the unit mounted on a 360 × 360 mm metal plate, 1 mm thick; the completed equipment must be checked again for EMC compliance.

Application and Supply Reference

Catalogue packing reference per unit 3900 g
Catalogue carton reference 4 units / 16 kg / 0.9 CUFT
Manufacturer warranty reference Six years, as listed in the datasheet; applicable manufacturer terms apply

Typical listed applications include robotic lawn mowers, electronic transportation vehicles, recreational craft, yachts and workboats, security systems, telecommunications base stations, and equipment with backup batteries.

The 3900 g value is the catalogue PACKING reference of 3.9 kg per unit, rather than an independently measured net weight or the total shipment weight.

Use installation wiring and hardware suitable for the shown terminals, mounting and operating conditions. Confirm any required cable or accessory supply separately for the ordered configuration.
