NLDD-1400HW DC/DC LED driver
MEAN WELL NLDD-1400HW is a DC/DC step-down constant-current LED driver rated at 1400 mA, with a 6–46 VDC output operating window and 10–56 VDC input. This wire-style model provides PWM dimming and remote on/off control in a fully encapsulated package for Class III lighting applications (SELV). Select the LED string within its voltage window and keep its operating voltage at least 4 V below the actual input voltage.

Output and model selection
Complete model / construction
NLDD-1400HW / NLDD-H series. HW denotes wire style. The output current is selected by the complete model code.
Rated output current
1400 mA constant current. The family offers separate 350, 500, 700, 1050, 1200 and 1400 mA models; these are model choices, not an adjustment range for this unit.
LED output-voltage window
6–46 VDC, subject to the input-to-output voltage margin.
Typical current accuracy
±5% at 48 VDC input.
Maximum ripple and noise
350 mVp-p. Measurement uses 20 MHz bandwidth and a 12-inch twisted pair terminated with a 0.1 µF capacitor.
Switching frequency
200 kHz. This is the converter switching frequency, separate from the PWM control frequency.
Input and performance
DC input-voltage range
10–56 VDC operating range; 59 VDC maximum. The maximum value does not extend the normal operating range.
Full-load input current
1360 mA at 48 VDC input, as listed in the specification table.
No-load input current
5 mA, as listed in the specification table.
Maximum efficiency
95% at full load and 36 VDC or 48 VDC input. Efficiency varies with the operating point; use this model-specific table value and its stated conditions.
Reference measurement conditions
Unless otherwise specified: normal 48 VDC input, rated load, +25°C and 70% RH ambient.
Dimming and operating control
PWM application levels
The application drawing uses 5 V high and 0 V low control levels at 100–1000 Hz.
PWM current characteristic
The output follows PWM current pulses. The illustrated duty/current characteristic is marked ±5% typical; its labeled duty scale begins at 10%. Use the stated on/off thresholds for shutdown rather than treating the plot as a guaranteed continuous low-end dimming range.
Shutdown input current
Maximum 2 mA with PWM dimming OFF at 48 VDC input.
Protection and environment
Short-circuit protection
Regulated at rated current. The short-circuit condition can be sustained, with automatic recovery after the fault is removed.
Overtemperature protection
Typical detection at Tj 165°C on the main control IC, IC1. Output shuts down and recovers automatically after the temperature falls. This is an internal junction threshold, not the allowable ambient temperature.
Cooling and ambient limits
Free-air convection. The common specification lists −40 to +50°C subject to derating. For this model, the full-load curve runs from −40 to +45°C and ends at +45°C. The high-current curve does not authorize full-load operation to +50°C.
Maximum operating case temperature
90°C.
Humidity and storage
Operating humidity: 20–90% RH, non-condensing. Storage: −40 to +85°C and 10–95% RH.
Temperature coefficient
±0.03%/°C.
Vibration
10–500 Hz, 2G; 10 minutes per cycle, 60 minutes along each of the X, Y and Z axes.
Connections and construction
Overall dimensions
32.1 × 20.5 × 12.5 mm (L × W × H). Drawing tolerance: ±1 mm.
Power and control wire positions
2 = −Vin, black; 11 = −Vout, blue; 14 = +Vout, yellow; 21 = PWM DIM, white; 23 = +Vin, red. Other positions are NC. Do not connect −Vin to −Vout.
Wire specification
UL1569 22 AWG leads, 100 ±10 mm long; stripped ends 5 ±2 mm. Follow the numbered wire-style drawing for the connection orientation.
Case and encapsulation
Fully encapsulated plastic case rated UL94-V0. The specification table identifies the potting material as epoxy (UL94-V0), while the overview calls it silicone. Confirm the actual compound with the manufacturer if material identity is important to the application.
Soldering limits
Wave soldering: 265°C for 5 seconds maximum. Manual soldering: 390°C for 3 seconds maximum.
Unit mass
18 g for this wire-style model, explicitly listed as unit weight in the catalog.
Installation requirements
Installation reference scope
The catalogue links the general LED installation manual, whose family list does not explicitly name NLDD. Use this model's DC input, output and control diagrams; the reference does not establish AC wiring or circuit-breaker ratings for this module.
DC wiring separation
Do not connect -Vin to -Vout. Do not connect this unit's output to its own input or to the output of another power source.
Step-down operating boundary
The catalogue specifies an output at least 4 V below the DC input, within the model-specific output-voltage range. Select the LED forward voltage and input together.
PWM reference and unused control
Apply PWM relative to -Vin at 100-1000 Hz. Leave the control input open when unused; ON is above 2.5 V up to 5 V or open, and OFF is below 0.8 V or shorted to -Vin.
Exact control connection
This wire version uses position 21 for PWM DIM. Use the exact model drawing rather than assuming all current ratings have the same control-pin position.
System EMC verification
This module is a component of the final system. Verify EMC with the complete device and use a model-appropriate additional EMI filter if required.
Safety and reference information
Safety approvals
LVD BS EN/EN 61347-1, BS EN/EN 61347-2-13, IEC 61347, and EAC TP TC 004 approved. The series is designed for Class III applications (SELV).
EMC references
BS EN/EN 55015 and BS EN/EN 61547 compliance. Immunity: BS EN/EN 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -6 and -8, light-industry level; EAC TP TC 020.
MTBF

Applications and warranty
Applications include DC battery-powered lighting, portable lighting, DC 48 V track lighting and DC 24 V landscape lighting, within the electrical and environmental limits above. The catalog states a 3-year manufacturer warranty, subject to the manufacturer’s warranty statement.
Packing reference
Catalog packing alternatives include 15 units per tube and 40 units per tray. These logistics quantities do not change the separately specified unit mass or establish the quantity supplied with an individual order.
