MEAN WELL LPV-35-5 Constant Voltage LED Power Supply
The MEAN WELL LPV-35-5 is a single-output constant voltage LED power supply with 5 V DC output: the catalog permits 6 A continuous output and lists 30 W, while the UL 1310 Class 2 test report certifies output current only up to 5 A. It uses a fully encapsulated, isolated IP67 plastic enclosure and free-air convection cooling. Select this exact output and input version, and apply the operating limits below.

Model selection and application
Parameter
Details
Full model / series
LPV-35-5 / LPV-35
Model code
LPV-35 identifies the series; the final code 5 denotes 5 V output. Use the actual power below, not the series number, for load sizing.
Load selection
Use a load designed for 5 V constant voltage. Keep current within 0-6 A and power within the catalog rating, with derating applied. For UL 1310 Class 2 applications, limit output current to the certified 5 A; the 6 A continuous capability is not a 6 A Class 2 certification.
Intended use
Suitable for LED-related fixtures or appliances such as decoration or advertising devices. The manufacturer states that this product is not intended for LED lighting luminaire applications in the EU and China. The installation manual additionally limits this series to devices whose primary use differs from lighting (for example copiers or overhead projectors), or scale and display lighting.
Output and dynamic performance
Parameter
Details
DC output / current
5 V; rated current 5 A; current range 0-6 A. Continuous 6 A is stated in note 7; UL 1310 Class 2 output current is certified only up to 5 A.
Catalog rated power
30 W. Apply all current and derating limits.
Ripple and noise, maximum
80 mV peak-to-peak; measured at 20 MHz bandwidth using 12-inch twisted-pair leads with parallel 0.1 µF and 47 µF capacitors.
Voltage tolerance / regulation
Tolerance ±6.0%; line regulation ±1.0%; load regulation ±4.0%. Tolerance includes setup, line and load regulation.
Setup / rise and hold-up
500 ms setup / 20 ms rise at both 230 VAC and 115 VAC, full load. Typical hold-up: 50 ms at 230 VAC; 16 ms at 115 VAC, full load. Setup is measured at first cold start; repeated ON/OFF operation may increase setup time.
Measurement basis
230 VAC input, rated load and 25°C ambient unless specified otherwise. Typical values vary with operating conditions.
Input and electrical planning
Parameter
Details
Rated input
90-264 VAC, 47-63 Hz; 127-370 VDC.
AC input current / efficiency
1.1 A at 115 VAC; 0.7 A at 230 VAC; typical efficiency 77% at catalog conditions.
Cold-start inrush, typical
55 A at 230 VAC; 510 µs pulse width measured at 50% of peak.
Leakage current
0.25 mA at 240 VAC.
Input derating
At 60 Hz: 80% load at 90 VAC, rising to 100% at 100 VAC; 100% from 100 to 264 VAC. Also apply the thermal limit; input and temperature limits are not independent allowances.
16 A breaker reference
At 230 VAC, the catalog lists 4 units on Type B or 7 units on Type C 16 A circuit breakers. Assess the actual installation and circuit conditions.
Brief input withstand
300 VAC surge input for 5 seconds. This does not change the continuous input rating or authorize output peak power.
Protection behavior
Parameter
Details
Short circuit
Short-circuit protection is listed in the model features.
Overload
110-150% of rated output power; hiccup mode, automatic recovery after fault removal.
Overvoltage
5.75-6.75 V; output shutdown; re-power to recover.
Environment and derating
Parameter
Details
Working temperature
-30 to +60°C within the model-specific curve.
Cooling / load derating
Free-air convection in the horizontal orientation shown. The shared series table lists +65°C, but this output-voltage curve ends at +60°C. Full load through +50°C, then linear derating to 60% at +60°C; do not extend this branch to +65°C.
Humidity and storage
20-90% RH working, non-condensing. Storage: -40 to +80°C, 10-95% RH.
Temperature coefficient / vibration
±0.03%/°C over 0 to 50°C. Vibration: 10-500 Hz, 2 G; 10 min/cycle and 60 min along each X, Y and Z axis.
IP67 enclosure and exposure
Fully encapsulated plastic enclosure; suitable for indoor use or outdoor use without direct sunlight exposure. Do not immerse or operate the supply in water, as required by the installation manual. The catalog footnote cautions against immersion exceeding 30 minutes; this is not permission to use the product submerged. Provide the required protection for the completed wiring; IP67 is not unconditional outdoor permission.
Altitude derating
For this fanless model above 2000 m (6500 ft), reduce allowable ambient temperature by 3.5°C per additional 1000 m.
Wiring, dimensions and installation
Parameter
Details
Dimensions / mounting
148 x 40 x 30 mm (L x W x H); drawing tolerance ±1 mm. Two Ø3.6 mm mounting features; case 975A. Use the drawing to position mounting hardware.
Input leads
UL 1015, 18 AWG, 600 ±30 mm. Brown = AC/L; blue = AC/N, as shown in this model drawing.
Output leads
UL 1007, 16 AWG, 600 ±30 mm. Red = +V; black = -V. Observe load polarity.
Insulation / installation
Class II design with no FG connection. Before installation or maintenance, disconnect from the utility and prevent inadvertent reconnection. Keep ventilation clear and do not stack objects on the supply. Maintain 10-15 cm clearance when an adjacent device is a heat source. Nonstandard orientation or high ambient temperature requires output-current derating. Select approved primary and secondary cables rated at least for the unit current. Provide system-level insulation and isolation around interconnections; cover single-insulated wires with the system enclosure. Do not open the case. Have faults examined by a qualified technician; damaged external cables must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or a similarly qualified person.
DC input wiring
Rated DC input: 127-370 VDC. Before DC connection, verify the manufacturer polarity instructions for this exact model; do not infer the L/N-to-positive/negative mapping from another series.
Case-temperature point
The mechanical drawing marks the T case / tc measurement location. The adjacent location dimensions are not maximum temperature values.
Connection items
This is a lead-wired module. Choose suitable connection and mounting hardware for the final equipment from the wire and mechanical requirements above.
