MEAN WELL RPS-300-27 is a PCB-type medical AC/DC power supply with active PFC and a nominal 27 V output. It provides up to 11.12 A / 300 W with the specified forced-air cooling, subject to input and ambient derating. The catalogue convection rating is 200 W, with lower allowed output as temperature rises or input voltage falls. Auxiliary standby and fan outputs, PS-ON, power-status signalling and remote sense support system integration.

Model and Configuration
Complete model
RPS-300-27
Product type
Single-output PCB medical AC/DC power supply with active PFC.
Model code
RPS-300 identifies the series; 27 is the nominal DC voltage; no type suffix identifies the PCB version.
The 300W rating requires forced cooling and the specified input and ambient conditions. The model is not supplied as a top-fan or side-fan variant by this code; the cooling fan shown in the installation drawing is external.
Primary-to-secondary insulation is 2 × MOPP. Suitability for BF applications requires appropriate consideration of the complete medical system; the component approval is not a guarantee of finished-equipment BF compliance.
Model-Specific DC Output
DC output voltage
27 V
Current range, convection
0–7.4 A; subject to the enclosure and temperature limits below.
Current range, forced cooling
0–11.12 A at 20.5 CFM.
Printed output power ratings
200 W with convection; 300 W at 20.5 CFM. Apply all derating limits; the two modes are not interchangeable.
Output adjustment
25.65–28.35 V, main output via SVR1.
Ripple and noise, maximum
200 mVp-p.
Voltage tolerance
±2.0%; includes set-up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation.
Line / load regulation
±0.5% / ±1.0%.
Efficiency, typical
93% at the standard measurement conditions.
The catalogue lists rounded current and power values independently. Respect both limits and the lower allowable load imposed by cooling, input voltage and ambient temperature; do not increase a rating by recalculating voltage × current.
Unless otherwise stated, specifications are measured at 230 VAC, rated load and 25°C ambient. Ripple/noise is measured with 20 MHz bandwidth and a 12-inch twisted pair terminated by parallel 0.1 µF and 47 µF capacitors.
Input and Start-Up
Input range
90–264 VAC or 127–370 VDC; 47–63 Hz AC.
Power factor, typical
>0.93 at 230 VAC; >0.98 at 115 VAC, full load.
Input current, typical
3.5 A at 115 VAC; 1.8 A at 230 VAC.
Cold-start inrush, typical
35 A at 115 VAC; 70 A at 230 VAC.
Set-up / rise time
2500 ms / 30 ms at 230 VAC; 3000 ms / 30 ms at 115 VAC, full load.
Hold-up time, typical
13 ms at 230 VAC and 115 VAC, full load.
No-load consumption
<0.5 W by PS-ON control.
The input-voltage load curve at 60 Hz permits 80% at 90 VAC, rising linearly to 100% at 115 VAC and remaining at 100% through 264 VAC. Apply this limit together with the thermal curves.
The functional block diagram identifies a 65 kHz PFC stage and 70 kHz PWM stage.
Protection
Short circuit / overload
105–135% of rated output power; hiccup mode, with automatic recovery after the fault is removed.
Overvoltage
29.5–33.5 V; output shuts down and requires re-powering to recover.
Overtemperature
TSW1 shuts down the output and recovers automatically after temperature decreases. TSW2 shuts down the output and requires re-powering to recover.
Standby, Fan Supply and Control Signals
5 V standby output
5 V at 0.6 A without a fan or 1 A with 20.5 CFM cooling; tolerance ±2%; maximum ripple 150 mVp-p.
Fan auxiliary supply
12 V / 0.5 A; tolerance −15% to +10% at a main-output load of 20% of the 20.5 CFM rated current.
PS-ON logic
Power ON: High, 2–5 V. Power OFF: Low, 0–0.5 V.
Power Good / Power Fail
TTL goes high after a delay greater than 10 ms and less than 500 ms after power set-up. It goes low at least 1 ms before output falls below 90% of nominal.
The fan supply is dedicated to an additional external fan that cools this power supply, supports full-load delivery and promotes service life. Do not use it to drive other devices.
Remote sense is provided at CN100: pin 1 is −S and pin 2 is +S; pin 3 is DC COM and pin 4 is PG. Follow the manufacturer installation instructions for sense wiring. This section does not specify a numerical line-drop compensation allowance or a separate PF connector pin.
Cooling, Temperature and Environment
Working temperature
−30 to +70°C, with mode-specific derating; horizontal orientation.
Operating humidity
20–90% RH, non-condensing.
Storage
−40 to +85°C; 10–95% RH, non-condensing.
Temperature coefficient
±0.03%/°C over 0–50°C.
Vibration
10–500 Hz, 2 G; 10 min per cycle, 60 min each on X, Y and Z.
Operating altitude
Up to 4000 m, with additional thermal derating above 2000 m.
For the PCB type, the horizontal convection curve allows 200W up to 50°C, falling to 100W at 60°C. At 115VAC the separate convection line starts derating from 200W at 40°C and also reaches 100W at 60°C. The convection curves end at 60°C; the 70°C endpoint belongs to forced cooling.
With 20.5 CFM forced airflow, the common RPS-300 / RPS-300-C curve permits 300 W through 50°C, then falls to 150 W at 70°C. This is a cooling-dependent continuous rating, not a timed pulse or a duty-cycle peak allowance.
Above 2000 m, reduce the allowable ambient temperature by 3.5°C per 1000 m for fanless operation or 5°C per 1000 m for fan-cooled operation. Observe the lower load allowed by all curves.
Dimensions and Installation
Overall size, L × W × H
127 × 76.2 × 35 mm.
Construction
Open PCB; mechanical drawing general tolerance ±1 mm, underside projection 3 mm maximum.
Mounting details
Four Ø3.2 mm holes; the drawing identifies 117 × 66.2 mm and 115.6 × 64.8 mm mounting dimensions with 5 / 5.7 mm edge offsets. Use the full drawing when making the support.
External fan position
The PCB drawing shows 20.5 CFM at 5 cm from the long edge, centered 56 mm from the output end, with airflow across the board as illustrated.
HS1 and HS2 must not be shorted. The LED and SVR1 adjustment are identified on the PCB drawing.
For the PCB type, the catalogue specifies EMI Class B conducted and radiated results in a Class I system with FG. The listed EMC testing uses protective grounding; do not treat these component results as an unqualified Class II system approval.
