Advanced Industrial Features

150% Peak Load Capability

Industrial motors, contactors, and capacitive loads demand huge inrush currents at startup. The SDR series is over-engineered to provide 150% of its rated power (130% for SDR-960) for up to 3 seconds. This eliminates the need to over-provision and buy a much larger power supply just to handle startup surges.

System Expansion & Monitoring

  • Current Sharing (Paralleling): The SDR-480P and SDR-960 are equipped with active current sharing. You can parallel up to 8 units of the SDR-480P (7+1) to reach 3840W, or up to 4 units of the SDR-960 (3+1) to reach 3840W.
  • DC OK Relay Contact: Available on SDR-120 and above. Provides a physical relay contact (e.g., 60Vdc/0.3A or 30Vdc/1A) that signals the system PLC if the power supply output falls out of tolerance.

Physical Dimensions (L * W * H)

The SDR series emphasizes a slim width to maximize available rail space in tight industrial enclosures.

  • SDR-75: 32 * 125.2 * 102 mm
  • SDR-120: 40 * 125.2 * 113.5 mm

Product Datasheet Download MEAN WELL SDR-960 Datasheet (PDF) The SDR-960 section is on PDF pages 16, 17, 18. Refer to the complete mechanical drawings and notes when planning installation. Model Identification Complete model SDR-960-48 SDR-960 family 960 W single-output family with built-in current sharing. 48 output code 48 V nominal DC output. Construction Active PFC, free-air convection, constant-current limiting, adjustable DC output and DC OK indication/contact. No fan is required by the stated cooling method. DC Output Nominal output 48 V DC; 20 A rated, current range 0–20 A; 960 W rated power. Peak output 26 A / 1248 W (130% of rated power), for no more than 3 seconds; average output power must not exceed 960 W. Output-voltage adjustment 48–55 V DC using +V ADJ. Ripple and noise are measured with 20 MHz bandwidth and a 12-inch twisted pair terminated with 0.1 µF and 47 µF parallel capacitors. Input and Starting AC input 180–264 VAC; this is not a 115 VAC input model. DC input 254–370 VDC. Frequency 47–63 Hz. Power factor, typical PF ≥0.95 at 230 VAC, at full load. AC input current, typical 6 A at 230 VAC. Cold-start inrush, typical 50 A at 230 VAC. Setup / rise time 1000 / 100 ms at 230 VAC, at full load. Hold-up time, typical 14 ms at 230 VAC, at full load. Leakage current Less than 3.5 mA at 240 VAC. Protection and DC OK Relay Short circuit / overload At 105–130% of rated output power, the specification describes operation for more than 3 seconds followed by output shutdown; automatic recovery occurs after 30 seconds if the peak-load condition has been removed. At 130–150%, constant-current limiting operates for more than 3 seconds before shutdown; re-power to recover. Overvoltage 56–65 V; output shutdown with automatic recovery or re-power to recover. Overtemperature Output shutdown; automatic recovery after temperature falls. DC OK closed / open Closed: PSU on / DC OK. Open: PSU off / DC fail. Relay contact limits Resistive load: 60 VDC / 0.3 A, 30 VDC / 1 A or 30 VAC / 0.5 A. Use these voltage/current combinations; the function table also identifies the 30 V / 1 A resistive reference. The overload response is protective behavior, not permission to extend the 3-second peak limit. The relay is a contact output; no numeric DC OK trip threshold or logic-output voltage is specified here. Peak Loading and Derating Repeated peak loading Limit each peak to 3 seconds and keep the complete-cycle average at or below 960 W. No universal fixed duty-cycle percentage is specified; the permitted duty depends on the intervening load and all derating limits. Lower-baseline waveform example The second catalogue waveform shows 480 W for 15 seconds and 1248 W for 3 seconds. Apply the separate average-power limit; this example does not authorize a longer peak. Vertical continuous-load curve 100% from -30°C to 50°C, then reduce along the plotted line to 60% at 70°C. Vertical peak-load curve The 3-second curve is 130% through 50°C, then declines. Follow the actual plotted high-temperature peak limit; 130% is not available throughout the entire ambient range. Input-voltage curve, 60 Hz 90% load at 180 VAC, rising to 100% at 200 VAC; 100% continues to 264 VAC. Do not superimpose indefinitely repeated boosts on a continuous rated-power load: lower-load intervals are needed to meet the stated average-power limit. Apply temperature and input-voltage limits together. Parallel Current Sharing Maximum units 4 units; consult the manufacturer for other configurations. Output-voltage matching The difference between outputs must be less than 0.2 V. Maximum total load current 20 A × number of units × 0.9. With 4 units this gives 72 A before any other required derating; the unadjusted sum of nameplate powers is not the continuous load allowance. Minimum parallel load Greater than 5% × rated current per unit × number of units. Sharing connections Connect all P+ terminals together and all P- terminals together. On CN205, pin 1 is P- and pin 2 is P+. Twist the P+/P- lines as a pair. Connect the outputs with short, large-diameter wiring before routing to the load. Below 5% of total rated load, only the master may operate; slave supplies may enter standby and their output LEDs and relays may remain off. Minor noise at light load during parallel operation is described as normal and not affecting performance. Environment and Installation Clearances Cooling / operating temperature Free-air convection; -30 to +70°C, subject to the vertical derating curves. Humidity / storage Working: 20–95% RH, non-condensing. Storage: -40 to +85°C, 10–95% RH, non-condensing. Temperature coefficient ±0.03%/°C over 0–50°C. MEAN WELL SDR-480P-24 is a convection-cooled industrial DIN rail power supply rated at 24 V DC, 20 A and 480 W. It includes active PFC, adjustable output, a DC OK relay and current sharing. Its 150% peak capability is limited to 3 seconds; average output power must remain within 480 W and all input-voltage and temperature limits apply. Product Datasheet Download MEAN WELL SDR-480P Datasheet (PDF) The SDR-480P section is on PDF pages 13, 14, 15. Refer to the complete mechanical drawings and notes when planning installation. Model Identification Complete model SDR-480P-24 SDR-480P family 480 W family with the P current-sharing designation; retain the complete SDR-480P code. 24 output code 24 V nominal DC output. Construction Active PFC, free-air convection, constant-current limiting, adjustable DC output and DC OK indication/contact. No fan is required by the stated cooling method. DC Output Nominal output 24 V DC; 20 A rated, current range 0–20 A; 480 W rated power. Peak output 30 A / 720 W (150% of rated power), for no more than 3 seconds; average output power must not exceed 480 W. Output-voltage adjustment 24–28 V DC using +V ADJ. Stay within rated current and power when adjusting. Ripple and noise, maximum 100 mVp-p. Voltage tolerance ±1.2%, including setup tolerance, line regulation and load regulation. Line / load regulation ±0.5% / ±1.0%. Efficiency, typical 94% under the stated catalogue reference conditions. Ripple and noise are measured with 20 MHz bandwidth and a 12-inch twisted pair terminated with 0.1 µF and 47 µF parallel capacitors. Input and Starting AC input 90–264 VAC, full range. DC input 127–370 VDC. Frequency 47–63 Hz. Power factor, typical 0.94 at 230 VAC and 0.99 at 115 VAC, at full load. AC input current, typical 5 A at 115 VAC; 2.5 A at 230 VAC. Inrush current, typical 40 A at 115 VAC; 80 A at 230 VAC. Setup / rise time 1500 / 150 ms at 230 VAC; 3000 / 150 ms at 115 VAC, at full load. Hold-up time, typical 14 ms at 230 VAC, at full load. Leakage current Less than 0.6 mA at 240 VAC. Protection and DC OK Relay Short circuit / overload At 110–150% of rated output power, the specification describes operation for more than 3 seconds followed by output shutdown with automatic recovery. Above 150%, constant-current limiting provides automatic recovery within 2 seconds; a condition persisting beyond 2 seconds may cause shutdown. Overvoltage 29–33 V; output shutdown with automatic recovery or re-power to recover. Overtemperature 105 ±5°C at the power-switch heatsink TSW, not an ambient-temperature rating. Output shutdown; automatic recovery after temperature falls. Peak Loading and Derating Repeated peak loading Limit each peak to 3 seconds and keep the complete-cycle average at or below 480 W. No universal fixed duty-cycle percentage is specified; the permitted duty depends on the intervening load and all derating limits. Lower-baseline waveform example The second catalogue waveform shows 240 W for 15 seconds and 720 W for 3 seconds. Apply the separate average-power limit; this example does not authorize a longer peak. Vertical continuous-load curve At 230 VAC: 100% from -25°C to 60°C, then reduce to 80% at 70°C. At 100 VAC, reduction starts at 55°C and reaches 80% at 70°C. Vertical peak-load curve The 3-second curve is 150% through 60°C and declines to 120% at 70°C. Input-voltage curve, 60 Hz 90% load at 90 VAC, rising to 100% at 100 VAC; 100% continues to 264 VAC. Do not superimpose indefinitely repeated boosts on a continuous rated-power load: lower-load intervals are needed to meet the stated average-power limit. Apply temperature and input-voltage limits together. Parallel Current Sharing Maximum units 8 units; consult the manufacturer for other configurations. Output-voltage matching The difference between outputs must be less than 0.2 V. Maximum total load current 20 A × number of units × 0.9. With 8 units this gives 144 A before any other required derating; the unadjusted sum of nameplate powers is not the continuous load allowance. Minimum parallel load Greater than 3% × rated current per unit × number of units. Sharing connections Connect all P+ terminals together and all P- terminals together, with the DC outputs connected in parallel as shown. On TB2, P+ is pin 7 and P- is pin 8. Environment and Installation Clearances Cooling / operating temperature Free-air convection; -25 to +70°C, subject to the vertical derating curves. Humidity / storage Working: 20–95% RH, non-condensing. Storage: -40 to +85°C, 10–95% RH. Temperature coefficient ±0.03%/°C over 0–50°C. Cooling / orientation Free-air convection; use vertical mounting for the published temperature-derating curves. Keep the ventilation path unobstructed. The page 9 peak-loading diagrams show two examples: 240 W for 100 seconds followed by 360 W for 3 seconds, or 120 W for 10 seconds followed by 360 W for 3 seconds. The marked 100-second and 10-second durations are the lower-load intervals, not the complete cycle periods. These examples do not establish an unrestricted duty cycle for other load patterns. Apply the input and temperature restrictions together; use the more restrictive allowable load. See PDF page 9 for the full curves. Protection and DC OK Monitoring Short circuit / overload The catalogue lists short-circuit protection. At 110–150% of rated output power, overload operation lasting more than 3 seconds is followed by output shutdown with automatic recovery. It combines an adjustable output, free-air convection and mounting on TS-35/7.5 or TS-35/15 rail. Built-in active PFC and a DC OK relay contact support industrial control installations. The specified 180 W peak is a short-duration capability, subject to the loading patterns and input/temperature curves below. Product Datasheet Download MEAN WELL SDR-120 Datasheet (PDF) The SDR-120 section is on PDF pages 4, 5, 6. Refer to the complete mechanical drawings and notes when planning installation. Model and DC Output Complete model SDR-120-48; SDR-120 catalogue revision 2025-06-09. The final code denotes 48 V nominal output. Continuous rating 48 V DC / 2.5 A / 120 W; output-current range 0–2.5 A. Voltage adjustment 48–55 V, using +V ADJ. Observe the model’s current and power limits when adjusting. Ripple and noise 120 mVp-p maximum; 20 MHz bandwidth, a 12-inch twisted pair and parallel 0.1 µF / 47 µF termination capacitors. Voltage tolerance ±1.0%, including setup tolerance, line regulation and load regulation. Line / load regulation ±0.5% / ±1.0%, respectively. Typical efficiency 90.5% at the default 230 VAC input, rated-load and 25°C ambient test conditions. Use the published complete-model continuous and peak ratings; the series number and family-wide efficiency headline do not replace the individual model values. Peak Loading and Repetition Conditions Peak current / power 3.75 A / 180 W, for a maximum of 3 seconds. The catalogue describes this as 150% peak-load capability. Loading pattern 1 The published waveform alternates 120 W for 100 seconds with 180 W for 3 seconds. Loading pattern 2 The second waveform alternates 60 W for 15 seconds with 180 W for 3 seconds. These are the two specific loading patterns on PDF page 6, not permission to repeat the peak at an arbitrary duty cycle. Keep every peak within 3 seconds and apply the applicable peak-temperature curve and input derating. Continuous loading must follow the separate continuous curve. The 180 W peak does not replace the 120 W continuous rating, and overload protection is not a continuous operating mode. Input and Timing Input range 88–264 VAC or 124–370 VDC; AC frequency 47–63 Hz. Typical AC current 1.4 A at 115 VAC; 0.7 A at 230 VAC. Typical inrush current 35 A at 115 VAC; 70 A at 230 VAC. Setup / rise at full load 1500 / 60 ms at 230 VAC; 3000 / 60 ms at 115 VAC. Typical hold-up at full load 20 ms at 230 VAC; 20 ms at 115 VAC. Leakage current Less than 1 mA at 240 VAC. Power factor, typical 0.93 at 230 VAC and 0.96 at 115 VAC, at full load; built-in active PFC. Unless otherwise specified, parameters are measured at 230 VAC input, rated load and 25°C ambient. Low input voltage requires load derating. Protection Overload: lower range At 110–150% of rated output power, the catalogue describes operation for more than 3 seconds followed by output shutdown. Short-circuit / overload: higher range Above 150% of rated power, constant-current limiting has automatic recovery within the first 3 seconds; after 3 seconds the output shuts down. Overvoltage 56–65 V; output shuts down, then re-power to recover. Overtemperature sensing 95 ±5°C, detected by TSW on power-switch heatsink. This is an internal sensing temperature, not an ambient rating. Overtemperature recovery Output shuts down and recovers automatically after temperature falls. The overload time description is a protection response. It does not extend the separately specified 3-second maximum peak-loading period. DC OK Relay Contact Relay closed Power supply on / DC OK. Relay open Power supply off / DC fail. Contact ratings, maximum 60 VDC / 0.3 A, 30 VDC / 1 A, or 30 VAC / 0.5 A, for resistive loads, as listed in the specification. The function table also lists the 30 V / 1 A resistive rating. Connection TB2 pins 1 and 2 are the relay contact. They are separate from TB2 pin 3 (−V) and pin 4 (+V). The contact indicates status; it is not a specified powered logic-voltage output. Select the monitoring circuit within the applicable resistive-load contact rating. Cooling, Derating and Environment Cooling / orientation Free-air convection; the published temperature curves are for vertical mounting. Working ambient range -25 to +70°C, subject to the input and thermal conditions below. Continuous temperature curve The 48 V branch shows 100% load up to 60°C, then decreases along the plotted line to 75% at 70°C. Short-peak temperature curve The 48 V branch shows the 150% short-peak level up to 60°C, decreasing to 125% at 70°C. The 3-second limit and published absolute peak-power rating still apply. Input-voltage curve, 60 Hz The graph shows 90% load at 88 VAC, rising to 100% at 100 VAC. The 100% plateau continues through 264 VAC. Working humidity 20–95% RH, non-condensing. Storage −40 to +85°C; 10–95% RH. Temperature coefficient ±0.03%/°C over 0–50°C. Vibration 10–500 Hz, 2G, 10 min/cycle and 60 min on each X, Y and Z axis; mounting compliance IEC60068-2-6. High-altitude derating For this fanless model, reduce the permitted ambient temperature by 3.5°C per 1000 m above 2000 m, as specified by the catalogue footnote. Apply the input and temperature limits together. The maximum ambient temperature is not a full-load rating, and the short-peak curve must not be used as the continuous curve. Typical AC current 1.4 A at 115 VAC; 0.7 A at 230 VAC. Typical inrush current 35 A at 115 VAC; 70 A at 230 VAC. Setup / rise at full load 1500 / 60 ms at 230 VAC; 3000 / 60 ms at 115 VAC. Overvoltage 29–33 V; output shuts down, then re-power to recover. MEAN WELL SDR-75 series: Industrial DIN Rail Power Supply - SDR-75-12

MEAN WELL SDR-75-12 is a single-output industrial DIN rail power supply rated at 12 V DC, 6.3 A and 75.6 W. It combines an adjustable output, free-air convection and mounting on TS-35/7.5 or TS-35/15 rail. The front drawing identifies a DC OK indicator and +V ADJ control. The specified 112.5 W peak is a short-duration capability, subject to the loading patterns and input/temperature curves below. Product Datasheet Download MEAN WELL SDR-75 Datasheet (PDF) The SDR-75 section is on PDF pages 1, 2, 3. Refer to the complete mechanical drawings and notes when planning installation. Model and DC Output Complete model SDR-75-12; SDR-75 catalogue revision 2025-06-09. The final code denotes 12 V nominal output. Continuous rating 12 V DC / 6.3 A / 75.6 W; output-current range 0–6.3 A. Voltage adjustment 12–14 V, using +V ADJ. Observe the model’s current and power limits when adjusting. Ripple and noise 100 mVp-p maximum; 20 MHz bandwidth, a 12-inch twisted pair and parallel 0.1 µF / 47 µF termination capacitors. Voltage tolerance ±1.0%, including setup tolerance, line regulation and load regulation. Line / load regulation ±0.5% / ±1.0%, respectively. Typical efficiency 88.5% at the default 230 VAC input, rated-load and 25°C ambient test conditions. Use the published complete-model continuous and peak ratings; the series number and family-wide efficiency headline do not replace the individual model values. Peak Loading and Repetition Conditions Peak current / power 9.375 A / 112.5 W, for a maximum of 3 seconds. The catalogue describes this as 150% peak-load capability. Loading pattern 1 The published waveform alternates 75 W for 100 seconds with 112.5 W for 3 seconds. Loading pattern 2 The second waveform alternates 37.5 W for 15 seconds with 112.5 W for 3 seconds. These are the two specific loading patterns on PDF page 3, not permission to repeat the peak at an arbitrary duty cycle. Keep every peak within 3 seconds and apply the applicable peak-temperature curve and input derating. Continuous loading must follow the separate continuous curve. The SDR-75 diagrams label the baseline as 75 W or 37.5 W and the peak as 112.5 W. Retain those waveform values separately from this model’s published continuous rating; do not recalculate a larger peak from 150% of the model’s rounded rating. Input and Timing Input range 88–264 VAC or 124–370 VDC; AC frequency 47–63 Hz. Typical AC current 1.4 A at 115 VAC; 0.85 A at 230 VAC. Typical inrush current 30 A at 115 VAC; 50 A at 230 VAC. Setup / rise at full load 1500 / 60 ms at 230 VAC; 3000 / 60 ms at 115 VAC. Typical hold-up at full load 80 ms at 230 VAC; 20 ms at 115 VAC. Leakage current Less than 1 mA at 240 VAC. DC input connection The specification explicitly permits DC input with AC/L connected to DC positive and AC/N connected to DC negative. Switching-frequency reference 85 kHz, as marked in the block diagram. Unless otherwise specified, parameters are measured at 230 VAC input, rated load and 25°C ambient. Low input voltage requires load derating. Protection Overload: lower range At 110–150% of rated output power, the catalogue describes operation for more than 3 seconds followed by output shutdown. Re-power to recover after shutdown. Short-circuit / overload: higher range At 150–170% of rated power, constant-current limiting has automatic recovery within the first 3 seconds; after 3 seconds the output shuts down. Re-power to recover after shutdown. Overvoltage 14–17 V; output shuts down, then re-power to recover. Overtemperature sensing 100 ±10°C, detected by RTH2 on main power transistor. This is an internal sensing temperature, not an ambient rating. Overtemperature recovery Output shuts down; after temperature falls, re-power to recover. The overload time description is a protection response. It does not extend the separately specified 3-second maximum peak-loading period. Cooling, Derating and Environment Cooling / orientation Free-air convection; the published temperature curves are for vertical mounting. Working ambient range -30 to +70°C, subject to the input and thermal conditions below. Low-temperature input condition The −30 to −25°C portion of the temperature graph is explicitly limited to 230 VAC input. Continuous temperature curve The 12 V branch shows 100% load up to 55°C, then decreases along the plotted line to 75% at 70°C. Short-peak temperature curve The 12 V branch shows the 150% short-peak level up to 55°C, decreasing to 125% at 70°C. Temperature coefficient ±0.03%/°C over 0–60°C.
